Georgia Bethea - Charles' Wife

Charles (Charlie) Herny Bethea was born on Sept. 30, 1867 and lived to be thirty years of age. He was the oldest son of Tristram Pinkney Bethea and Rebecca Ann Vise and apparently was born during the trip across Mississippi into Arkansas from the East, ( Dillon, South Carolina, via Georgia and North Alabama) following the Civil War. His Father had been a soldier for the Confederacy. He was the oldest of thirteen children, and eventually had the profession of being an engineer on the small logging railroads (narrow gauge) which brought trees and logs out of the timberlands to sawmills. He worked at Buckner (Warren County), and offered hospitality to his Sisters and Brothers, who occasionally visited from Calhoun County. On one such visit, his Sister Jenny (Virginia) Bethea was introduced to Earl Smith and they later were married. Charles Bethea was married to Georgia A. Robinson (b. May 10, 1870 – d. April 17, 1938).

She later remarried after Charles’ death and had a family with George H. Clay (b.6-22-1876 - d. May 28, 1948). Their children were Frank Clay and Kathryn Clay (Browing).
